I followed through with your instructions, and now it opens, but it only opens to a black screen and gives me an error message in japanese +img/ui/msg-hatoful.jpg . Do you have any suggestions that might help?

Hrm, that sounds like something I saw in the readme file, though I think it applied to Windows.  And evidently I didn’t save the readme herp derp, time to unpack the zip file again.

Here yeah:

4: Unable to open “msg-hatoful.jpg”

This error may occur when playing the game in Windows.

Right click on Famous Writer.exe, and go to Properties. Set the application to run in compatibility mode and as a root user.

A quick google search makes me think that compatibility mode is Windows’ equivalent to Rosetta (the “application” that allows you to run apps that are written in the old Mac languages), but you should have that installed already… or at least I’ve never seen a download for it anywhere and I’m pretty sure it installs when you install the OS :?

Do you have any other PowerPC apps that work? (you can see if they’re PPC apps by command-I/getting info on ‘em, it should say “Kind: Application (PowerPC)” in the general tab?)  Also, what version of OSX are you using?
